Introduction
Rubber products manufacturing in Sri Lanka is one of the major industry for industrial development and national economic growth. Keeping employees employed in the industry leading to employment remains paramount in building sustainable development. Production of rubber forms the core of Sri Lankan manufacturing through the existence of the big corporates and the SMEs. As a result of the economic system, it plays an important role employee retention is the most required component to maintain operating performance as well as leadership in the marketplace. The rubber production industries specifically require employee retention activities as a basic business imperative because they demand specialized know-how.
A high number of outgoing employees compel manufacturing firms to spend more in the recruitment of employees and training programs and also decrease the rates of productivity and manufacturing line interruption. Business performance and product quality are threatened when institutions lack crucial information as a result of persistent employee loss. Organizations in this particular sector are required to conceptualize strategic HRM practices in workforce sustainability.
The use of Human Resource Management practices is the key tool organizations use to design their employee retention systems. The HRM profession includes a variety of core functions that include recruitment and performance management and compensation and benefits and employee engagement training and development. A full set of personnel policies under effective HRM principles helps in the creation of supportive workplaces which increase job commitment and satisfaction and decrease employee turnover among the employee population.
The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) reports that the rubber industry creates substantial export revenue for the country because rubber-based products generated more than USD 1 billion in last 2024. Approximately 300,000 people find work through rubber and manufacturing operations and their supply network activities. Solid tires make up the leading export category for Sri Lanka because the country ranks as a primary global solid tire exporter with a 60% share of the total rubber export value. The important economic business sector continues to experience employee turnover rates of approximately 15-20% annually because workers move on because of restricted career paths and national migration patterns. DSI Samson Group together with Richard Pieris & Company and other leading firms have launched retention strategies which combine wage competition with employee skill development initiatives and workplace environment improvements. The development and support of HRM practices aimed at worker progression and involvement continues to be a priority for maintaining industry performance as well as enduring sector expansion.
